Ian Jukes, March 26th

Ian Jukes had to cancel as speaker at NCAIS in the fall, but now he's healthy and back in North Carolina. Ian has been a teacher, an administrator, writer, international consultant, university instructor and keynote speaker. Over the course of the past 10 years, Ian has worked with clients in more than 30 countries and made more than 7,000 presentations typically speaking to between 250,000 and 350,000 people a year. But Ian is an educator first and foremost. His focus has consistently been on the compelling need to restructure our educational institutions so that they become relevant to the current and future needs of children. The blog will also include all twitters tagged #ncais.

I'll be covering his talk starting at 12:30 EST on Thursday, March 26th.

Carol Dweck at 8 am central

Here's Carol Dweck's brief bio:

My work spans social and developmental psychology and examines the self-conceptions people use to structure the self and guide their behavior. My research looks at the origins of these self-conceptions, their role in motivation and self-regulation, and their impact on achievement and interpersonal processes.

I've read a couple of her articles but don't know enough. I'm looking forward to this.

Revitalizing the Veteran Teacher

Thursday, February 26 8-9 am (9-10 Eastern) Revitalizing the Veteran Teacher with Peter Gow. I am a big fan of Peter's. You can check out his blog The New Progressivism or his other blog, Admirable Faculties (yep, he has two!) to see if you're interested in catching part of this one. Here are a couple of quotes from Admirable Faculties "I worry that fear is going to drive many schools to make poor choices about sustaining their teachers." and "It's time for schools to look at their mission statements and dig into the language that is most idealistic and then figure out how to realize those ideals in ways that will be exciting and compelling to students and families in years to come."

NAIS 09 Live Reports!

Live from NAIS! I'll be live blogging from a conference again. Here's my schedule for the first two days, with links to further information about the sessions I've selected. Times are central, so I'm converting them too. Rather than having one blog for all the sessions, I'm going to break it up by topic so that it will be easier for you to find what interests you. Note that you can schedule a reminder to your email for any of these! Please feel free to add comments or ask questions. You can do this ahead of a session or during it. I'll post the Friday links soon.

Wednesday, February 25 1-4 pm (2-5 Eastern) Setting a Course for IT Success (yeah, I know, you just yawned, but this will be great and the leaders are phenomenal)
